About Us

Established in 2016, 1886 Malt House is a state-of-the-art malted grain production facility on the site of the former Miller Brewing campus in Volney, N.Y., also home to the Sunoco Ethanol Plant. The 40,000 square foot facility is equipped with the latest in malting technology, as well as proven systems and personnel to support the reliable and consistent production of the highest quality malt demanded by today’s craft brewers. At full production rate, 1886 Malt House supplies 60 tons of malt per week, or 2,000 tons of malt annually, making it one of the largest craft malting facilities in the United States. Our company name, 1886 Malt House, commemorates the year that the Statue of Liberty was given to the United States, which leverages a symbol of great pride to residents of New York State. It’s also a throwback to a time when New York State had a craft brewery in every town and the idea of being local was not new, it was a way of life. 1886 Malt House is proud to partner with New York’s finest grain growers in an effort to secure more than 3,000 acres required to satisfy the ever-increasing production yields and to create a variety of 100% New York-produced malts.
