Only 12 gallons of water are used to grow one pound of pumpkin. That's 44x less than walnuts and 75x less than almonds!

Pumpkin seeds are harvested very differently than the actual whole pumpkin. First, the pumpkins are harvested at the end of their peak ripeness with a single machine that detaches the fruit from the vine and funnels it through a machine that extracts the seeds and macerates the flesh in one fluid motion. The flesh is then returned to the soil to add nutrients for the next year’s crop. After they leave the field, the seeds are washed, dried, sorted, and dehulled before being shipped to our Bakery in Dorchester where they are roasted and transformed into Pumpkin Seed Butter.

We consider multiple factors with each of our valued supplier partnerships: safety for those with food allergies, local sourcing whenever possible and alignment with our core values. Whenever possible, we partner with single-source ingredient providers to avoid the risk of cross-contamination along the supply chain.

It took us over a year to identify and form relationships with our current ingredient suppliers and we are extremely proud of the farms and providers that we work with.

Once the ingredients arrive, we craft our spreads in small batches. Our food is not only delicious; it’s also made with simple ingredients that carry a variety of health benefits, without any undesirable additives.

Real food. Expect oil separation.

The vast majority of watermelon is grown in China. Their long days and minimal rainfall make for ideal watermelon growing conditions. Turkey and Iran are the next largest producers while the U.S. is the 7th largest. The average farmer grows 32,000 pounds of watermelons per acre.

Even though more than 90% of a watermelon is water, only 14 gallons is used to grow one pound of watermelon seeds. That’s 78x less water than shelled almonds, and 94x less water than pistachios. Talk about a conservation effort!

In 2017, 261 billion pounds of watermelons were grown around the world, with 175 billion pounds coming from China alone.

For harvesting watermelon seeds, the fruits are harvested at the end of ripeness with a single machine that detaches the fruit from the vine, macerates the flesh to replenish the soil, and extracts the whole seeds. After they leave the field, the seeds are washed and dried before being separated from their black shells and transformed into luscious Watermelon Seed Butter.
