It's our goal to deliver supreme malt to Iowa’s breweries by vertically integrating the rolling hills and ideal soil of Iowa's Driftless Region with the art of malting. Black Gold Malt Farm was brought into existence by a fourth generation Iowa farming family whose brewing and bootlegging roots helped purchase the home farm 100 years ago. After befriending many brewers across Iowa while delivering hard cider, made with local ingredients, Kevin Miller, owner of Crimson Sunset Winery, found that our local breweries do not have access to locally-produced grains. In response to this, an idea was born, and the Miller family is up to the challenge of supplying the missing link: Iowa-grown and malted barley.
